Williamsburg’s annual film festival returns when WILLiFEST launches its sixth edition on September 24. The event continues until September 27 with screenings at Williamsburg Cinemas and Videology.
Dozens of films will be screened at the four-day festival with screenings throughout the day and night.
This year the screenings are interspersed with events like Industry Panels.
This year’s panel focuses on writing and is called the Writer’s Lounge. It’s being put together by the education non-profit, The Center for Active Learning.
The first panel tells attendees about how to get cracking on that first book or blog people have always wanted to write, but are too intimidated or never get around to starting the work. The second panel offers the basics on screenwriting, and the final workshop focuses on discussing some of the challenges of working as a writer or a director in the film industry.
The festival currently also features three separate competition sections which are handed out at the wrapping up of proceedings on Sunday. These are for the best screenplay, best soundtrack, and the best student film.
This apart from the awards handed out for best feature and short films, actor, director, documentary and music videos.
The festival will also witness the world premier of the film, Last Pickup, directed by Maggie Surovell, about three young men confronting the clash of their good intentions with their eventual bad decisions, all over the course of one night.
