Entrepreneurship, content and design are the focus of the Northside Innovation portion of the annual Northside Festival, which is set to take place from June 8-14 throughout North Brooklyn.
The Innovation part of the festival will take place June 11-12, and feature a diverse mix of speakers, including the co-founder of the Millenials news and entertainment focused website Elite Daily; the Executive Editor of Linkedin, Daniel Roth; and the CEO of the popular online dating service, HowAboutWe, Brian Schechter; among the dozens of speakers at the event.
The entrepreneurial aspect of the event will focus on how to start and manage a business and how to reinvent oneself in centuries-old industries. The content part will examine how brands and products engage with audiences based on content created for them, particularly how it’s influenced by the work of filmmakers, bloggers and social media mavens. And the design aspect of the show will focus on the latest trends within the digital design world.
There is also a strong European presence at Innovation event this year. One such event is the Northside Dutch Innovation Showcase – part of a growing focus on Dutch culture at the entire festival this year.
“We’re thrilled to highlight some of our country’s most exciting innovators and game-changing creatives at Northside 2015,” said Jan Kennis, Cultural Attache from the Netherlands to the US, in a statement on the Northside Media Group’s website. “The Netherlands will be represented through a large group of over 25 innovative startups, designers, musicians, artists and filmmakers present at Northside Festival.”
The Dutch Innovation Showcase will feature successful New York-based Dutch startups like the commuter bicycle creator Vanmoof, portable music company Rocki, and 3D printer connecting service 3Dhubs, among 12 others.
“With this year marking the Netherlands’ second year of participation at Northside, founders and artists from a wide array of disciplines will descend upon Williamsburg to spotlight Dutch culture” said Scott Stedman, Co-Founder of Northside Media Group, on the group’s website. “We’re psyched to have the Dutch on board again this year as they truly represent the international fabric of this incredible creative gathering.”
In addition there will also be startups from Belgium and Switzerland highlighting the spirit of innovation in their own countries.
The festival attracts over 100,000 visitors each year, and the organizers are expecting similar success this year as well.
