Food Innovation the Talk of Taste Talks

BY Tanay Warerkar

For the latest innovations in haute cuisine and food technology, this year Taste Talks will be the place to be.

Organized by the Northside Media Group, the annual food extravaganza, now in its second year, will feature the first ever Future Food Expo, showcasing the latest inventions in the American food industry.

Scheduled for the second weekend in September, the two-day expo, which will be held at the Colossal Media headquarters on Wythe Avenue in Williamsburg, has a host of experimental treats for attendees.

“Taste Talks is all about the future of taste, so what better way to demonstrate this than to curate a space for innovative companies to showcase forward-thinking food products and technologies?” asked Daniel Stedman. “We’re transforming the incredibly colorful mural workshop at Colossal into a full-blown expo, with a Chicken & Waffles brunch in the backyard.”

The brunch, which will kick off the festivities on Saturday, will allow attendees to interact with a host of creative food companies such as FreshDirect – the online grocery store that caters to the New York City Metropolitan Area, Raaka Chocolate – known for its single source chocolate bars and focus on creating bars made directly from beans by hand, and Ohneka Farms – an urban farm designing company that enables people to grow their own organic products.

In addition, the expo will feature a dinner organized by Dinner Lab, the organization that pairs as-yet discovered chefs with adventurous diners to try experimental meals crafted by the chefs. The dinner at the Expo will be crafted by celebrated chef, Eric Bolyard, and just some of samplings on the menu include charred figs and smoked yellow tomato, and beef cheek and gilda.

“As one of the companies changing the way people eat and dine out, it’s really exciting to join other food companies breaking new ground,” said Brian Bordainick, the founder of Dinner Lab. “And what better place than in the heart of America’s innovative culinary capital, Brooklyn?”
