With summer vacations around the corner, a local music school is offering an exciting, creative alternative for kids who want to stay glued to television screens and video games.
Sage Music, which runs its program from the indoor activity space, PLAY Greenpoint located on Nassau Avenue, is offering a Summer Camp at the same location beginning mid-July with registration currently open for parents and their kids interested in the program.
The Camp is open to students aged three to five years old and will run Mondays through Thursdays for four weeks when it starts in July. Parents can however choose to enroll their students for as many weeks as they desire and are not required to sign up for all the weeks.
The drop-off program will go 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on each of the days it is organized. Children will be treated to a wide variety of activities including soccer and fitness routines at McCarren Park, Ballet lessons, Arts and Craft sessions, lessons in math, science and puzzle solving skills, and of course Sage Music’s music and dance program.
The program is organized in conjunction with PLAY Greenpoint, LIC School of Ballet, SocRoc Soccer, Insightful Entertainment and Art Table Studio, the latter two of which are a music production company, and an arts advocacy group respectively.
While Sage Music has been running its music and dance program from its headquarters in Long Island City, Queens for the past few years, it’s founder Jason Sagebiel opened a Greenpoint location earlier this year – and the first ever summer camp is an indication of the success the program has enjoyed in the neighborhood so far.
“We’ve got a really positive response in the community since we opened,” said Sagebiel. “We have so many parents participating with their kids. Our staff too has increased and we always manage to get a huge turnout.”
