Suyana Crespo Awarded Top Youth Volunteer
The Greenpoint Y recognized Roseanne Antonucci of the Greenpoint Y Board of Managers and Suyana Crespo of Greenpoint as the Volunteer of the Year and Youth Volunteer of the Year, respectively, at the YMCA of Greater New York Annual General Assembly and Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at the Grand Hyatt New York in April.
Antonucci has served on the Greenpoint YMCA board of managers for more than 10 years in various capacities. Most notably in 2013, she was Major Gifts Chair and was instrumental in raising funds for the Y’s Annual Campaign. She serves on various committees and shares her professional expertise to ensure the successful operation of the YMCA.
Crespo was chosen as the youth volunteer of the year for exemplifying the spirit of the YMCA. In order to support its 2013 Strong Kids Campaign, she literally emptied the bank. She took all of her savings and donated to what she believed to be worthy cause. Her donation of $58 dollars was an extraordinary act of generosity that inspired the Greenpoint Y and helped set the pace for this year’s fundraising effort.
Each year, 3,500 volunteers make contributions to help the YMCA of Greater New York strengthen the fabric of our City. Thanks to them, each year the Y touches the lives of more kids, families, and communities. As the largest youth-serving organization in New York, the YMCA prides itself on attracting the most talented and caring individuals from all walks of life to help deliver much-needed services to communities throughout New York.
“Volunteers have been the lifeblood of the YMCA since the organization was founded more than 160 years ago,” says Greenpoint YMCA Executive Director, Keith Hicks. “Each year thousands of volunteers give generously of their time and energy, smarts and creativity, to help the Y fulfill its mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Their extraordinary work and commitment humbles us, and Roseanne Antonucci and Suyana Crespo are true civic exemplars.”
