On Friday, January 10th, supporters of School District 14, including Assembly Members Joe Lentol and Maritza Davila, Councilmember Antonio Reynoso and District Leader Linda Minucci, along with representatives for Congress Members Hakeem Jeffries and Carolyn Maloney attended the School District 14 Legislative Breakfast at IS 71 Juan Morel Campos Secondary School. 18 principals representing 22 schools were also on hand, along with Assistant Principals, Parent Coordinators and Parent Leaders from throughout District 14.
Hosted by the Community Education Council (CEC), Superintendent Alicja Winnicki and the President’s Council of District 14, the meeting gave principals, parents and parent leaders a chance to meet their elected officials, and to extend personal invitations to their schools, so they can showcase what each school does best. For the elected officials, it was an opportunity to meet the school district community, at large, at one time and in one location.
This year’s Legislative Breakfast was organized by the CEC, and its President, Tesa Wilson, and according to Winnicki, showcased “her commitment to bringing as many resources to schools as possible, especially at times when school budgets are lean and principals are trying to get enrichment and afterschool programs for all their children.”
