In June 2012, the Grand Street Business Improvement District (BID) announced a Logo Design Competition, encouraging the local community to design a logo that better reflected their changing commercial corridor. On Tuesday, January 29th, the winner, Libby Vanderploeg, was announced by BID Executive Director Artineh Havan, Chairman Fred Moehring and Councilmember Diana Reyna during a ceremony at Dar 525 (525 Grand Street).
Vanderploeg’s winning entry, a black and white whose only color is a green lamp at a subway entrance was chosen “because it reflects Grand Street’s landscape – a neighborhood commercial corridor,” said Havan. “The edgy logo reflects the people that live, work and shop on Grand Street.”
As the contest winner, Vanderploeg received a City Council Proclamation from Reyna and a gift certificate for dinner for two at Grand Street’s St. Austere.
