The faculty and students of PS 132 brought some happiness back to the still displaced students of their adopted school, Scholars’ Academy of Rockaway Park, this past week.
Since Sandy destroyed their school, the Manhattan Avenue elementary school has been providing relief to the middle and high schoolers, who have been split into two East New York school buildings and are waiting for the chance to return home. They’ve donated handmade “smiles,” clothing, supplies and hot meals prepared by the faculty and parents.
Last week, they brought back the Scholars’ Academy Seawolf, the mascot that had been lost during the storm. The updated school symbol appeared at both Scholars locations, raising the spirits of the kids and helping them to feel a little more at home.
