Creative Use Sought for Vacant Domino Lot

BY Jeff Mann

What would you do with 55,000 square feet of vacant outdoor space in Williamsburg? That’s the question Domino developers Two Trees is asking through a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued last week.

Since acquiring the Domino site in October 2012, the DUMBO-based real estate development firm has been working on plans to redevelop the property. The process is expected to take over a year, allowing a portion of the space to be utilized prior to construction.

The vacant lot on Kent Avenue between South 3rd Street and South 4th Street will be available by March of 2013. As per the RFP, Two Trees is looking for a creative interim use for the site that appeals to a wide cross‐section of residents and is respectful to the surrounding community. A track record of successfully executing the type of uses and activities proposed is preferred as is the payment of financial considerations to Two Trees for use of the site. Plans for outreach, such as advertising and public programming, maintenance of the site, security and parking are also requested in the RFP, which is due no later than 4:00PM on January 31st.

Two Trees will conduct an optional site visit on Friday, January 11th. Potential applicants should RSVP by e-mailing acarsonblair@twotrees‐, regardless of whether they will attend, so as to receive all updates and amendments to the RFP.

“As we continue to develop this plan, we hope to begin to reconnect this long vacant site to the surrounding neighborhood by providing space for creative interim uses,” read a statement issued by Two Trees.

Respondents to the RFP must deliver two hard copies of their proposal, including all attachments, to Anne Carson Blair, Two Trees Management, 45 Main Street, Suite 602, Brooklyn, NY 11201. An electronic version should also be e-mailed to acarsonblair@twotrees‐
