On Saturday, December 8th, over 175 families, kids, parents, and community members descended upon the Greenpoint YMCA’s “Snacks with Santa” event for a fun-filled day of crafts, holiday shows, raffles, and of course, treats with St. Nick himself.
The Meserole Avenue branch proudly celebrated the December holidays for all cultures, with crafts, including making Hanukkah dreidels, decorating Santa hats, painting wooden gingerbreads and reindeers.
Free enrichment classes were held throughout the day with specialists, such as cooking, art, guitar and dance so kids got a first hand experience of each of the Greenpoint Y’s afterschool classes. Kids as young as 3 months made their way downstairs to Santa’s Wonderland to take a special picture with Santa. For those looking for a taste of different types of holiday food, Latkes (potato pancakes), and eggless eggnog were made to the delight of all attendees.
After all that fun, the Greenpoint gym became the site of the Story Troupe’s performance of the “Grinch Who Stole The Holidays,” complete with musical accompaniment and original songs. The Story Troupe is a group of talented Y staff that performs new remixes to old stories we all know and love. Performances by the Story Troupe run throughout the year during scheduled special events.
