Councilmember Diana Reyna celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in a “novel” way. Instead of Irish whiskey and stout, Reyna helped the community drink in knowledge during the 2nd Annual Irish Arts Center Book Day. On Friday, March 16th, The Irish Arts Center, a New York-based arts and cultural organization, handed out books by Irish and Irish-American authors to passersby for free at the corner of Havemeyer Street and Broadway. The giveaway was part of a citywide effort that resulted in the distribution of 10,000 books.
“I am so happy to have the Irish Arts Center celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Williamsburg,” said Reyna. “Book Day is an incredibly creative way to educate people while joining in celebration of such a culturally significant holiday.”
