Lentol Helps Keep PS 84 Kids Fit
Public School 84 held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their brand new fitness center on Friday, February 10th. The center is filled with equipment designed specifically for children, including ballet bars and mirrors for dance. The addition was made possible largely due to efforts by Assemblyman Joe Lentol, who allocated $100,000 towards the new center.
Toasting Brooklyn’s Sweethearts
On Monday, February 13th, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and his wife, Jamie, toasted hundreds of Brooklyn couples celebrating fifty or more years of marriage. “These are really the lovers of Brooklyn,” said the Boro Prez. Four of the couples at the BP’s annual Valentine’s event actually tied the knot more than seventy years ago! Sweethearts renewed their vows, danced to love ballads from their youth and took advantage of a photo booth at El Caribe Country Club in Mill Basin.
Greenpoint was represented at the event by Irena and Francislek Nowak, married 55 years!
Women’s Health Screening Day
A health event at Woman to Woman, 109 Moore Street, featured a presentation about Woman’s Cancer Prevention by Dr. Mary Fatehi, SUNY Downstate at LICH, and another about Cosmetic Gynecology by Dr. Bale Ravi of Wyckoff Hospital. Dr. Christopher Gade of NY Presbyterian Cornell Weill Center was also on hand to speak about Women and Heart Disease.
SUNY Downstate at Long Island College Hospital, Woman to Woman Comprehensive Care, and Greenpoint Diagnostic Imaging sponsored the event designed to inform and raise awareness. “There was an exceptional level of medical expertise making presentations,” said Carol DeLillo, of Greenpoint Diagnostic Imaging. “We planned the event on Valentine’s Day, to remind guests to share the information given with other woman in their families and communities that they love.”
Legislators Honored for Supporting Good Health in North Brooklyn
The Woodhull Medical Center Annual Legislative Forum took place on Friday, February 10th. At the event, which focused on the changing healthcare environment in Brooklyn, special recognition was given to members of the New York State Legislature for their leadership and guidance with the State’s Medicaid Redesign Team review of healthcare in Brooklyn.
