State Senator Martin Malavé Dilan, D-Brooklyn announced today that proposed cuts to the B13 bus line servicing Bushwick north of the Myrtle-Wyckoff Aves. station, have been taken off the table of proposed service reductions by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The decision was made following a meeting between Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jay Walder and Senator Dilan.
“I sincerely thank Chairman Walder for sparing the thousands of B13 riders that would have been impacted by these proposed cuts,” said Dilan. “While I’m fully aware that there will be cuts in some places, services such as this portion of the B13 that provide access to medical treatment need to be carefully considered.”
Despite providing direct service to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, the portion of the route running north of the Myrtle Ave. – Wyckoff Ave. Station was initially targeted for cuts after it was deemed “underutilized and duplicative.”
“No cuts to service should be looked at as black and white as has been the custom in North Brooklyn. Chairman Walder should be praised for realizing that when we talk about cuts, we are talking about access to education, goods and service, and in this case, medical treatment,” said Senator Dilan.
