Cookie Road: The Nabe’s Sweetest New Addition

BY Juliet Linderman

Last Friday, community residents welcomed Greenpoint’s newest sweet spot, Cookie Road, to the neighborhood with open arms. The brand cookie shop, adorned with a colorful, 1970s-style flower-power-inspired mural on its outside edifice, is nestled quietly on the corner of Franklin and Oak Streets, and boasts a wide variety of freshly-baked cookies, cakes, tarts and a large assortment of hand-decorated sugar cookies—all prepared daily on the premises.
Though the store has been open just a few days, Cookie Road has had a strong internet presence for nearly two years. Owners Jerzy and Aneta Szot—both artists, and Greenpoint natives—launched the Cookie Road website as a medium through which to sell Aneta’s specialty handmade, hand-decorated sugar cookies. Initially, Aneta made the cookies just for friends and family on special occasions, but eventually she realized that she “was baking a few times a week!” and those close to her encouraged her to pursue baking as a career.
After their internet cookie-selling efforts were met with great success, the Szots decided to open up a shop, on the ground floor of their building, which they own—they live on the top floor.
“Since we bake everything ourselves from scratch, we figured we should probably just get our own shop,” Aneta Said. “We needed the extra kitchen space!”
Cookie Road sells everything from snickerdoodles and rocky-road cookies to elaborate mini-tartlets and rougelach, and is located at 94 Franklin Street.
