G-Trip – August 22-24

8/22 Flying on One Engine at Automotive High School (8PM, FREE!)

Part of the Rooftop Films series, Flying on One Engine tells the story of Dr. Sharadkumar Dicksheet, a Brooklyn doctor who travels to India to perform thousands of cleft lip surgeries for free. The movie debuted this year at SXSW to warm reviews. This is a small issue that everyone can get involved in, but few people know about. Check it out!

8/23 Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls at Music Hall of Williamsburg (12 PM, $6-10 suggested donation)

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls started in 2004 to give girls age 8-18 an environment to learn how to break into the ultimate boys’ club—Rock n’ roll. This is a great, light way to spend a Saturday afternoon and recapture your youth.

8/24 Yo La Tengo and Titus Andronicus at McCarren Pool (2PM, FREE!)

This one’s for Jersey! The old school, Hoboken’s own Yo La Tengo, have been rocking out since the 80’s, soaking the world in the softest, most comfy feedback you’ve ever heard. And after last year’s unexpected triumph of an album, I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass, they’ve still got all the juice from their New Wave Hot Dogs days. Openers Titus Andronicus, from Glen Rock, are the drunken revelers of the night, and you’ll be singing along and pumping your first before you even realize it.

Hopstop Says: G to Nassau Ave, walk east down Manhattan Ave to McCarren Park
