On Wednesday, August 13th, Town Square’s SummerStarz returned to McCarren Park, with Girlz Night. The evening’s festivities led off with a high-energy, hip-hop dance class by Greenpoint’s Hamilton Dance Studio. Under the direction of Rita Hamilton, young dancers showcased the skills and confidence Rita is known for instilling in her talented students.
The evening’s live music segment followed on the heels (no pun intended) of Children’s Hour. Miss Angelina and the Jersey Girls put on a fantastic performance, made all the more impressive by the Parks Department scheduling another (loud) outdoor concert for the same time. Miss Angelina, who patterns herself as a latter day Salt N Pepa, TLC, or Missy Elliott, impressed the audience with her unique sound, which consisted of a combination of Caribbean, African, Arabic and Indian rhythms fused with Hip Hop, House and Electronica. The Jersey Girls, Miss Angelina’s sultry back-up singers further tantalized the audience, while adding richness and texture to Miss Angelina’s vocals.
At sunset, the other Angelina saved the world, once again, in the film “Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life.”
This week, Town Square’s SummerStarz will present American Indian Night, featuring an arts & crafts session with the Brooklyn Children’s Museum for Children’s Hour, live performances by Roger Kuhn & Starlight Tyler, and sunset movie, “The Last of the Mohicans.”
